Ghanian-born Dorinda Hafner combines her artistic skills with her culinary ones to give us a detailed look at the many flavors Africa has to offer. From north to south, from east to west, she has presented us with a delicious array of traditional and modern dishes. (The recipes from Tanzania — home of Zanzibar, the original Spice Island — are everything you’d hope they would be!) And one of the things I especially like about her book is that she’s careful to give every country its culinary due; where most authors would lump regions together, Dorinda gives background information and insight on the cultures and peoples within each one. This book is a delicious introduction to the many tastes, characteristics, and stories of Africa.
