The Maitland Family Farm is located in the Melvin area, north of Yale Michigan. We have been farming for 31 years and have raised our four children on the farm.
The Maitland Family Farm’s beef cattle are raised on grass. We have a cow-calf operation. The calves are born and raised here until ready for sale.
The calves nurse on their mother’s milk during the spring and summer months. A rotational grazing program is used to provide our cows and calves with fresh pasture throughout the grass growing season.
During the winter months our livestock is fed hay which has been entirely harvested on our farm during the summer.
The Maitland Family Farm is moving toward organic certification. Herbicides have not been used for the past 16 years and insecticides have never been used on our fields. Aged manure and natural minerals are used to enhance the soil. Our cattle live in a healthy,stress free environment.
