This has to be the most interesting fruit I’ve come across in a while! It’s oblong-shaped, bright-hot pink, and the skin looks a bit like scales. (Think Stephen Cosgrove’s Serendipity dragon and you’ll get the idea.) It’s indigenous to Mexico and Central and South America, where it’s called pitaya. When the tips of the “scales” start to turn a little bit brown, it’s ready! I put it in the fridge for a few hours and then sliced it into easily-peeled rounds to enjoy it. The taste is somewhat analogous to a less-tart, milder kiwi, but since it’s a cactus fruit, it’s a little bit crunchy and much more moist than a kiwi. I’ll let you find out what it looks like inside yourself–suffice to say that yes, you can eat the seeds. This might be my new favorite fruit!

So you call it Dragonfruit in the States, well you know, seeds are very, very small and tasty. I tasted and I think it will give it a B-. The thing I liked the most is that it looks great and very exotic (bright colors), definetly something to have at a party as an eatable ornament.
